MOSFET Drivers

Why a MOSFET driver is required?

In many applications including Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) we will require to turn MOSFETs on and off very fast with PWM signals of 100s of kHz. Fast switching on and off MOSFETs will require larger current as its gates will be required to charge and discharge. In most cases, PWM controller and microcontroller ICs will not be capable of sourcing and sinking that much current. Then we will require a driver controller to help.

There are readily available ICs for driving MOSFETs like IR2110 and TC4420.
